Bulk Chromatographic Media
From the Foremost Name in Silica Materials Science
Davison Chemical, originally Davison, Kettlewell & Co. and forerunner of the Grace Davison Silica Products business, was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1832. Silica gel, developed and used for adsorption of vapors and gases in gas masks during World War I, was patented in 1919. In the early 1920s Davison commercialized silica gel and began developing many new applications such as air drying, refrigeration, and packaging desiccants. During World War II, Davison’s adapted its silica technology to meet three compelling wartime needs: a dehydrating agent to protect military equipment from moisture damage, a fluid cracking catalyst for producing high octane gasoline, and a catalyst support used in the manufacture of synthetic rubber.
W. R. Grace & Co. acquired Davison Chemical Company in 1954. Subsequently, the Silica Products group continued to expand applications for silica and has long been recognized for superior technical service, strong applications technology, and global customer support. With the contributions of more recent acquisitions – The Separations Group, MODcol, and the Jones Chromatography line of HPLC products; consolidated as Grace Vydac – Grace Davison Silica Products now offers silica gels, colloidal and precipitated silicas, separations media, analytical, preparative and process columns for chromatography, and adsorbents that enhance manufacturing processes and end-products in a wide range of biotechnology, pharmaceutical, digital-media, industrial, and consumer applications. The company has a strong global presence with research, technical service, manufacturing and sales offices located around the world.
Quality, Consistency, and Proven Performance for Biopharmaceuticals and Other Industrial Separations
Grace Davison’s materials science expertise assures high-quality and consistency in its silica-based media products. Our capability in high-volume manufacturing includes production facilities at Baltimore, MD, and Hesperia, CA, in the United States and in Europe at Worms, Germany, with capacity in the range of kilograms to tons for high-quality silica adsorbents. Our bulk adsorbents are in use for production of a number of FDA approved biopharmaceuticals and we do provide regulatory support data for GMP applications.
The chromatographic media products listed in this section are available in bulk quantities to suit the needs of preparative, pharmaceutical process, and industrial chromatography applications. Bonded-phase chemistries in bulk adsorbents identical to those in analytical columns assure validity of preparative method development and simplify scale-up to process levels. Grace Davision, through its Grace Vydac chromatography business unit, invites your request for quotation on any required quantities and welcomes the opportunity to assist your staff in developing preparative and process applications.
Unmatched Capacity, Global Reach, Expert Support
With the global presence and manufacturing capacity to meet bulk adsorbent requirements, no matter how large, we supply hundreds of tons of silica every year to some of the largest biotechnology and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. When you rely on Grace Vydac, you can count on consistent product quality, timely delivery and expert technical support.
